Jackie Rafferty
Jackie Rafferty holds a University of Southampton Principal Research Fellowship and is Director of the Centre for Human Service Technology (CHST) in the School of Social Sciences and of SWAP. With a background in community development she has researched and published extensively on information and communication technologies in social work education and practice. Link to profile page.
Helen Carmichael
Helen has worked within the Higher Education Academy's Subject Centres since 2004. She comes to SWAP from the Health Sciences and Practice Subject Centre, where she was Senior Learning and Teaching Adviser. With a background in education, Helen has taught at all levels from primary to higher education. She has contributed to several education, health and social care courses with the Open University and, currently, on the masters' health promotion programme at King's College London. Helen's research interests are in reflective practice and clinical supervision. She is currently researching the discourse of clinical supervision within a number of mental health professions.She is also a counsellor and counselling supervisor.
Hilary Burgess
Hilary Burgess is Senior Lecturer in the School for Policy Studies at the University of Bristol, where she taught on the social work courses, and was Programme Director for the DipSW from 1990 to 1997. She has written extensively on social work education, including `Effective Learning and Teaching in Social Policy and Social Work' (2004 eds H.Burgess and I.Taylor, RoutledgeFalmer). Since 2000 she has been seconded to SWAP, and is a member of several national committees concerned with social work education. She is the Director of Mental Health in Higher Education a collaborative project between the HEA and the Centre for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Teaching and Learning in Mental Health at the University of Birmingham. Rebecca Johnson
Rebecca Johnson is a Learning and Teaching Adviser (0.8fte) and part of her role focuses on social policy issues. She has a particular interest in diversity and the new 14-19 curriculum developments. In a separate capacity she acts as a consultant to Aimhigher Hampshire & Isle of Wight, a HEFCE funded widening participation partnership of schools, colleges and universities.
Martina Johnson
Martina Johnson is a Learning and Teaching Adviser for SWAP. Martina's background is in psychology and cognitive science, in particular the fields of learning and memory. Her PhD thesis focussed on implicit and explicit learning of artificial grammar rules.
John Williams
John joined SWAP in January 2010. He has previously gained experience working in marketing and events in the leisure and tourism sector at the home of golf, St Andrews.
Jane Revell
Jane joined SWAP in February 2009. She has worked for the University of Southampton since July 2007, within the Central Timetabling Unit & prior to this several years in various customer focussed roles within the shipping industry.
