Forum on International Issues in Learning and Teaching in Social Work

This Forum will provide an opportunity to discuss international issues in the social work curriculum. This will draw together the perspectives of the JUC-SWEC International Committee, the JUC-SWEC Learning and Teaching Committee and SWAP/Higher Education Academy.

This Forum will provide an opportunity to discuss international issues in the social work curriculum. This will draw together the perspectives of the JUC-SWEC International Committee, the JUC-SWEC Learning and Teaching Committee and SWAP/Higher Education Academy.

The forum will open with short presentations from Sue Lawrence, chair of the International Committee, form Jane McLenachan, Chair of the Learning and Teaching Committee and from Rebecca Johnson/Hilary Burgess from SWAP.

Some themes will be identified for debate and further action, such as:

• finding space for international perspectives in the SW curriculum (e.g. separate module vs interweaving)
• international issues e.g. SW response to major humanitarian disasters; migration and refugees; human rights; the role of collective action in SW
• resources for L&T on international issues (e.g. web-sites, books, exchange programmes, e-learning links for students)

Note: The Joint University Council Social Work Education Committee (JUC-SWEC) Learning & Teaching Committee will meet on the same day at the same venue in the morning from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, and also the International Committee (a the same time in another room).
