Higher Education

The Bologna Process derives its name from the so-called Bologna Declaration, signed in 1999 by ministers in charge of higher education from 29 European countries. It is an intergovernmental European reform process aimed at establishing the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) by 2010. This should allow students, graduates, and higher education staff to benefit from unhampered mobility and equitable access to high quality higher education. The corner stones of such an ‘open space’ are mutual recognition of degrees and other higher education qualifications, transparency (readable and comparable degrees organised in a three-cycle structure) and European cooperation in quality assurance.

The QAA's international quality assurance work, encompasses a range of activities relating to quality assurance around the world

The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW)is a global organisation striving for social justice, human rights and social development through the development of social work, best practices and international cooperation between social workers and their professional organisations.

IASSW and IFSW have worked together to produce the Global Qualifying Standards for Social Work Education and Training. The standards (accessed via the website above) were approved by both the IASSW General Assembly and the IFSW in Adelaide on 4 October 2004.
