Key Government Departments for Wales

The Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills aims to improve children’s services, education and training provision to secure better outcomes for learners, business, and employers.

The Department for Health and Social Services manages and supports the delivery of health and social care services

The Department for Public Services and Performance aims to improve public services and includes the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales and the Healthcare Inspectorate Wales

The Department for Social Justice and Local Government has a particular emphasis on local government and on safeguarding and supporting vulnerable people, combating racial exclusion and reducing inequality, and promoting safe and sustainable communities.
Higher Education Organisations in Wales
Higher Education Wales (HEW) represents the higher education sector in Wales and is the national council in Wales of Universities UK. Publications include:

The Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) promotes internationally excellent higher education in Wales. Activities in relation to learning and teaching include:
- supporting the development of learning and teaching
- promoting teaching quality assurance through the Quality Assurance Agency’s process of institutional review in Wales, funding the UK Teaching Quality Information website and the National Student Survey
- supporting the development of flexible learning opportunities through the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales
The Quality Assurance Agency in Wales undertakes Developmental Review (from 2007-8) – replacing a process of Institutional Review
The Higher Education Academy (HE Academy) works in support of the higher education sector in Wales with a Welsh Institutional Liaison Group, and the Senior Adviser for Wales. Work is undertaken in partnership with HEW, HEFCW and the Department for Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills, in addition to visiting individual institutions, to ensure that the Academy meets the needs of the Welsh Higher Education sector.
The ‘Devolution and Divergence: Health and Social Care in the UK’ conference hosted by the Schools of Healthcare Studies and Nursing and Midwifery Studies at Cardiff University, held at Cardiff City Hall (November 30th – December 1st 2009), sought to take stock of the situation that has developed in the 4 countries post Devolution. The conference was sponsored by the HE Academy and four subject centres. Papers and poster presentations are available.
The National Union of Students in Wales (NUS Wales) is an autonomous 'special region' of NUS UK, setting its own policy, electing its own executive committee, and campaigning on the issues that affect students studying in Wales.
Social Work Education in Wales
The Care Council for Wales (CCfW)/Cyngor Gofal Cymru promotes high standards of conduct and practice among social care workers and high standards in their training.
Qualifying programmes: A degree in social work was introduced from 2004, using the All Wales Framework, delivered through the All-Wales strategic partnership. There are specific requirements in relation to bilingual provision.
Postqualifying programmes: A ‘Modular Framework for PQ Learning & Development in Social Work’ was agreed by CCW in March 2005. In 2007 the Rules for the approval, monitoring and quality assurance of programmes in the new framework were published by the CCW.
Sector Skills Councils in Wales
Under the umbrella of Skills for Care and Development (the Sector Skills Council for social care, children and young people’s workforces in the UK) in Wales the CCfW hold this responsibility.

Mae Cyngor Cyllido Addysg Uwch Cymru (CCAUC) yn hyrwyddo addysg uwch o ragoriaeth ryngwladol yng Nghymru. Mae’r gweithgareddau o ran dysgu ac addysgu’n cynnwys:

hyrwyddo sicrwydd ansawdd addysgu trwy broses yr Asiantaeth Sicrhau Ansawdd o adolygu sefydliadau yng Nghymru, ariannu’r wefan UK Teaching Quality Information a’r Arolwg Myfyrwyr Cenedlaethol sy’n cefnogi datblygiad cyfleoedd dysgu hyblyg trwy Framwaith Credydau a Chymwysterau Cymru.
Mae’r Asiantaeth Sicrhau Ansawdd yng Nghymru'n gwneud Adolygiad Datblygiadol (2007-8) - sy’n disodli proses yr Adolygiad Sefydliadol.
Mae’r Academi Addysg Uwch (Academi AU) yn gweithio i gefnogi’r sector addysg uwch yng Nghymru gyda Grŵp Cyswllt Sefydliadol Cymru ac Ymgynghorydd Uwch Cymru. Gwneir gwaith mewn partneriaeth ag AUC, CCAUC a’r Adran Addysg, Dysgu Gydol Oes a Sgiliau, yn ogystal ag ymweld â sefydliadau unigol, er mwyn sicrhau bod yr Academi’n diwallu anghenion sector Addysg Uwch Cymru.
Mae Undeb Cenedlaethol Myfyrwyr Cymru (UCMC) yn ‘rhanbarth arbennig’ ymreolaethol o NUS UK, sy’n pennu ei pholisïau ei hun, ethol ei phwyllgor gweithredol ei hun ac ymgyrchu ar faterion sy’n effeithio ar fyfyrwyr sy’n astudio yng Nghymru.
Addysg Gwaith Cymdeithasol yng Nghymru
Mae Cyngor Gofal Cymru yn hyrwyddo safonau uchel o ymddygiad ac ymarfer ymhlith gweithwyr gofal cymdeithasol a safonau uchel yn eu hyfforddiant.
Rhaglenni cymwys: Cyflwynwyd gradd mewn gwaith cymdeithasol yn 2004, gan ddefnyddio Fframwaith Cymru Gyfan, trwy bartneriaeth strategol Cymru Gyfan. Mae yna ofynion penodol mewn perthynas â darpariaeth ddwyieithog.
Rhaglenni ôl-gymhwyso: Ym mis Mawrth 2005, cytunodd Cyngor Gofal Cymru ar ‘Fframwaith Modiwlaidd ar gyfer Addysg a Datblygiad Ôl-gymhwyso mewn Gwaith Cymdeithasol. Yn 2007, cyhoeddwyd Rheolau ar gyfer cymeradwyo, monitro a sicrhau ansawdd rhaglenni yn y fframwaith newydd gan Gyngor Gofal Cymru. Bydd y gofynion ar gyfer Cwrs Ôl-gymhwyso mewn Gofal Plant yn cael eu cyflwyno yn 2008.
