Description
By Autumn 2005, all programmes at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) had implemented some form of Personal Development Planning (PDP). Across UWIC there was some variation in the forms and methodologies adopted, as programmes have been given the flexibility to develop approaches suited to their needs. The Centre for Social Work had an established track record of offering degrees that use pedagogic tools such as personal and professional development plans, student profiles, practice based learning and learning agreements. They were arguably 'ahead of the learning curve' in this field. This project therefore offered an opportunity to monitor the implementation of a formalised PDP within a mature programme, and to compare it with programmes grappling with the issues for the first time. The engagement and the effectiveness was assessed with the students as well as the staff.
