Description
This project investigated the ways in which students view their role in society and whether experience of voluntary work affects their understanding of the rights and obligations of citizens. Making use of a current module Social Policy Work Experience, the students were introduced to notions of citizenship, community and social capital and asked to consider in the abstract their own place in the community. The students were then offered a range of voluntary work experience and asked to reflect upon both what they learned from the work and how they viewed their own role in the community. They were asked to monitor their own reflections in a structured diary and to participate in a formal evaluation of the project.
