Description

Plagiarism is increasing among students in Higher Education and detection is becoming increasingly difficult and time-consuming. There is no evidence that social work students are any less likely to plagiarise than others and websites selling essays indicate their use of these. Plagiarism constitutes academic malpractice but there are also serious issues for social work students whose Codes of Practice (General Social Care Council, 2002) require them to be ‘honest and trustworthy’ (code 2.1) The proposed workshop offers an opportunity for social work educators to share information and discuss reasons for plagiarism, its detection and deterrence. It is based on the proposer’s experiences and findings as ‘plagiarism officer’ within her School.
